The Algarve is easily accessible from most UK and Irish airports with regular flights to Faro and serviced by a number of low cost airlines. Golf Holidays in the Algarve
The Algarve is one of the most popular destinations amongst British holidaymakers, particularly when it comes to golf. The region is awash with brilliant golf courses and with temperatures in the summer hitting the 30s it has to be one of the best places in Europe to tee off.
Towns such as Vilamoura, Faro, and Albufeira are all within 20 minutes of the airport and offer great Golf Holidays, with terrific greens combined with a vibrant nightlife and plenty to do otherwise.
Where to Spend a Golf holiday in the Algarve
Most of our customers planning a golf break in the Algarve, centre their trip around Albufeira or Vilamoura. The latter is the very centre of the golfing region and therefore acts as the perfect location to set up a base with a range of four and five-star hotels located along the coast. The area has six golf courses to play all in close proximity to the town.
Just a short drive away is the city of Albufeira, filled with glorious sandy beaches and plenty of history, with settlements dating back to the Middle Ages.
Both are suited to all needs, whether you’re looking for a cheap golfing holiday in the Algarve, or something a little more extravagant; you’ll find budget and high-end restaurants, glamorous cocktail bars, and Irish pubs, so there really is something for everyone.
Getting to the Algarve
Faro airport lies just to the east of many of the Algarve’s golf courses and can be flown to from all over the UK. Flights are generally reasonably priced and it’s around a three-hour journey from most airports.
From Lisbon, you can expect a two-and-a-half-hour drive or 45-minute flight to the country’s golfing capital, which is well worth doing if you want to explore the country a little further.
Top Algarve Golf Courses
There’s such a fantastic amount of courses to enjoy, that it’s a little difficult to know where to start in regards to Algarve golf holidays.
The Oceanico Old Course is located in the very heart of Vilamoura and was designed by Arnold Palmer along with the Victoria course; two of the best golf courses in Portugal. Playing across rolling hills and through well-positioned hazards, it’s a fabulous place to start a golfing holiday, particularly with only a short walk to the port for a post-round pint.
Closer to Faro airport, you’ll find the San Lorenzo Club, one of the most popular courses in the country. To play here, staying at the Dona Filipa Hotel is a must, but it’s well worth it as you play 18 holes through plush woodland and the prettiest of fairways.
