About Quinta Do Vale Golf Course
Designed by the legendary Seve Ballesteros, The Quinta do Vale course is an 18 hole championship layout with 6 par 3’s, 6 par 5’s and 6 par 4’s. Set in a valley alongside the Guadiana river the design takes into account all the natural contours of the landscape and opened in 2008.
The fairways are reasonably generous for a Ballesteros designed course and there are several doglegs to negotiate. Located in the Algarve, many of the holes feature water hazards but there are a number of different tees available so that you can make your round as easy or as challenging as you want.
The first hole at Quinta do Vale sets the tone for the rest of the round. A 500 yard par 5 that has a reasonably wide fairway and once you have found the middle you have a decision to make whether to go for the green or lay up short of the two water hazards that guard the green. Having negotiated that the second hole is a par 3 with water guarding the right hand side of the green and a large bunker protecting the left side.
The 4th hole is one of the standout holes on the course. A dogleg right with water all the way up the right side and a tightly guarded green. The 5th is a cracking par 3 onto an almost island green with a couple of bunkers at the back to catch the over hit shot.
The final 3 holes at Quinta do Vale present a tough challenge to end the round. The 16th is a short par 3 but has water guarding the right side of the green and all along the hole. The 17th is a sharp dogleg left par 5 that does give a birdie chance if you avoid the carefully placed bunkers. Finally the 18th looks on paper a short par 4 but even if you find the fairway your approach to the green has to avoid water at the front of the green and bunkers at the back .
