From the coast of Cornwall to the white cliffs of Dover wherever you are in the Southern part of England you can be sure you will be near to a golf course. In the South East there are nearly 500 courses many sitting on the largest area of heathland in England providing the natural landscape for some classic heathery layouts. There are two golf courses at the Berkshire Club that are almost as good as Sunningdale but at less than half the price. The fairways are tree lined and the heather and bracken whilst attractive have an uncanny knack of attracting your golf ball. In that same area close to Ascot racecourse you could spend a whole week playing different golf courses and not be disappointed with any of them.
Further East on the Kent coast lies the classic links of Royal St. Georges which has hosted the Open Championship on 14 occasions. and will host it again in 2020. It regularly is featured in the list of the worlds top 100 golf courses and it’s a memorable golfing experience especially if the wind is strong. Avoiding the large bunkers is a must to make a good score. Very close by is the Princes Golf club which is another classic links course that is often used as a qualifying course for the Open Championship and with Royal Cinque Ports and Stonelees Golf course within easy travelling distance it’s a great area to spend a few days.
Moving Westwards there is the excellent East Sussex complex near Uckfield. There are two Championship courses on site, and it has hosted the European Open Championship. Quality and service are keywords at both the golf courses and the on-site Hotel accommodation and it’s well worth a visit.
On the opposite side of the country to St. Georges you will find England’s Oldest golf club The Royal North Devon club at Westward Ho. It’s a must play not only for its history but for the fact that its one of the toughest links courses in the country. Throughout Devon and Cornwall, there are nearly 100 golf courses to play.
