Where to Spend a Golf Break in Gran Canaria
The golf hotels in Gran Canaria range from basic to luxury, and cater for any budget, whilst providing great resting spots for groups of all sizes.
There are two main destinations that golfers tend to flock to on a Gran Canaria golf holiday, those being Playa Del Ingles and Maspalomas.
Playa Del Ingles hosts one of the most popular beaches on the island, whilst visitors to the Maspalomas golf course can also enjoy the beautiful 400 hectares of the nearby Maspolomas Dunes Nature Reserve.
Both of these golf resorts are within minutes of each other and a short drive from a number of great golf courses in the south of the island.
To the north of the island meanwhile, you’ll find Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria which is not only full of culture, great food, and fabulous beaches, it’s also home to the oldest golf club in Spain.
Best Gran Canaria Golf Courses
Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas opened its clubhouse doors in 1891 and has been one of the must-plays in Gran Canaria ever since. It’s one of two courses at the northern end of the island alongside the El Cortijo Golf Club. This golf course has incredible views of the mountains and volcanic landscape, which the island is rightly famed for.
It’s in the south where you’ll find the majority of courses, however, although Playa del Ingles is only a 45-minute drive from the centre of Las Palmas. The Anfi Tauro Golf Course is considered a bit of a hidden gem for those playing golf in Gran Canaria. Located a little further west of Maspalomas, the course blends natural preservation and created beauty perfectly. This gives golfers plenty of challenges to overcome with lakes, waterfalls, and lush vegetation lining the course.
You’ll find plenty of other courses in the south including the famous Salobre Golf. This is the only golf club in Gran Canaria that features two different courses. Between the Old and North courses at Salobre, there are 36 fantastic holes to enjoy!
Another favourite is the Lopesan Meloneras course which has three holes alongside the rugged Canarian coast. Meloneras is a trendy and beautiful resort just a ten-minute ride from Maspalomas. It is well known for its tranquil beach and high-end boutiques, as well as great golf. The natural beauty the golf course offers is incredible!
