In the North East around the Newcastle area, Slayley Hall is a popular Resort where you can stay in four-star accommodation and play on their two courses one of which is regularly used for professional tournaments. Further south towards Sheffield and Worksop is another Ryder Cup venue Lindrick which is one of England’s finest inland courses.
West of the Pennines in the North of the region Silloth on Solway Golf Club offers spectacular views and depending on the weather conditions very challenging golf. Through the Lake District there are numerous golf courses that are worth playing and as you head South you come to the region that is known as England’s Golf Coast.
Around Liverpool and Southport there are some of the greatest golf courses in Europe with several Open Championship venues that should be on everyone’s bucket list. Heading them would be Royal Birkdale with Royal Lytham St. Annes and Royal Liverpool close behind. However, although these are the marquis courses there are many others that are definitely worth a visit such as Hillside, Formby and West Lancs.
