About Benamor Golf Course

The Benamor Golf Course is the closest course to the resort town of Tavira and since it opened in 2000 it has become very popular with visitors and residents alike. It’s a par 71 playing 6100 yards from the back tees and was designed by Sir Henry Cotton. He has made the most of the natural landscape providing a gently undulating course that is not surrounded by properties and still has excellent views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Sierra do Caldeiro hills.

It is not the longest course in the Algarve but it is a refreshing change from some of the more challenging courses where here the emphasis is on accuracy and course management rather than just blasting the ball off the tee with a driver on every hole. The architect has used the indigenous cork, fig, almond and olive trees to great effect. Some are purely decorative whilst others add to the difficulties facing the golfer. In addition to the trees, there is water in play on several holes and the course is extremely well bunkered. Some of the par fours are on the shortish side and if you are up for the challenge the big hitters may be able to get close or even drive the greens. The short 17th is one of the feature holes. Playing at around  185 yards from the back tee you have to hit across a lake to a green set lower than the teeing area and with plenty of undulations to test the putting stroke.

There is a covered driving bay and grass practice area with targets for those looking to sharpen up their game and for the golfer seeking to improve then there is a very good golf academy on site. There is also a practice putting green, chipping area and bunker to hone the short game skills.
