Golf Girona, Girona

Golf Girona is a par 72 parkland course only a few miles from the centre of Girona.  Designed by the renowned British Architect Fred Hawtree, and opened in 1992, it was described by him as one of his best designs as it has an old fashioned traditional feel about and its great charm is that it is completely isolated from any non-natural surroundings. There are no buildings, pylons or roads to obscure some impressive views of the countryside which wraps around it. The design carefully follows the contour of the land and if you are a fan of great golf design this is one course you should play. Situated nearly 200 metres above sea level between the valleys and hills of dense pines and vegetation the course offers great views of the nearby Govones Mountains. It is the only course in Spain sown with Penncross, is considered the highest quality grass for golf.

The front nine holes are probably harder than the back nine and will present you with a variety of shots utilising many of the clubs in your bag whilst the back nine offers spectacular views from the raised tees that help you forget the odd bad shot. It’s a great feeling standing on the elevated tees watching your ball hopefully sailing through the air.

The large clubhouse is built of glass and stone and with both nine holes finishing in front of it it’s an excellent spot to overlook golf with a cooling beer in hand and the food on offer is what you would expect from one of Europe’s premier gastronomic regions. The view from the terrace offers spectacular views of the Las Gavarres mountains.
