From the very North of England to the southernmost tip there are courses that welcome visitors and offer a range of different types of design to play on. In the North West, there are stunning links-style courses that make up England’s Golf Coast and the area boasts three Open championship venues, Royal Birkdale, Hoylake and Lytham St. Annes, as well as other courses that have staged major events.

Across the Pennines, Yorkshire boasts some outstanding courses with several designed by Alistar Mckenzie who is famous for designing Augusta amongst several other famous courses. Certainly, a short break staying in either Leeds or York would reward you not only with great places to spend a few nights but it would be hard to find better golf courses then Ganton, Alwoodley, Moortown and Lindrick.

As you head towards the Midlands the Ryder Cup venue of The Belfry is a must play course and towards the coast, there are some great courses such as the Royal West Norfolk, Sheringham and Hunstanton. Once you get into Berkshire and the Stockbroker belt of Surrey you could spend weeks there playing a different great golf course every day. Everyone will have heard of Wentworth, Sunningdale and Woburn but Swinley Forrest and the two courses at the Berkshire are absolute gems.

Skirting around London a visit to the East coast of Kent to play Royal St. Georges and Royal Cinque Ports will reward you with some of the finest Links golf in England.

Places To Stay in England

England can offer several Resorts that have their own golf courses and accommodation. The Belfry is perhaps the best known of these with a four-star hotel and three different courses including the Ryder Cup venue the Brabazon. In the North of England, both Rockliffe Hall and Slaley Hall have Championship courses attached to quality accommodation. Whilst these might be the best golf courses there are many other Hotels with golf courses attached throughout the Country. If you want to play on different courses and stay in a town so that you can enjoy more varied evening options, then a golf tour to a region with several courses nearby is highly recommended. In particular staying around Southport, York or Leeds will be a rewarding experience for golfers seeking good golf and a multitude of restaurants, bars etc. to sample.

In the capital, London, there is the Tower of London which as been a palace and a prison and everything in between. The Roman Baths in the stunning Georgian city of Bath are worth visiting, as is York and it’s beautiful Minster. If you favour the outdoors then the Peak District, Lake District, Cotswolds and North Yorkshire Moors are all incredible.

England is awash with lively towns and cities that buzz with nightlife. The most popular destinations are Newcastle where every night is party night – especially if the Toon win, Manchester which has always had strong music scene, as well as Leeds and Bristol, whilst Blackpool, York, Birmingham and Liverpool are all popular with stag and hen parties.
