Golf In Cornwall
Cornwall has built a whole tourist industry around its rugged coastline of over 300 miles. Now famous as one of the UK’s leading surfing destinations and with numerous coves, estuaries and inlets to discover it’s a great place for a walking holiday or to participate in water-based activities. Its surprising that with over 30 golf courses to play its not better known for a golf holiday. Most of the courses are along the Northern Coastline where splendid golf courses offer a challenging test with spectacular views. The temperate climate makes its an ideal location all the year round.
The Golf Courses In Cornwall
There is a real contrast between the coastal links courses and the inland parkland designs. St Enodoc and St. Mellion are good examples of this. The St. Enodoc Church course wouldn’t be out of place in any list of top links courses. The James Braid design like all good links courses has that timeless feel that you are playing the game in the same way that it has been played for a hundred years. The undulating fairways weave between large sand dunes and the wild tufty grasses that help to define the fairways are to be avoided at all costs. St Mellion is a totally different proposition. The Jack Nicklaus designed course is influenced not surprisingly by American style courses with manicured fairways well defined rough and hazards a plenty. It’s a great test of golf and shouldn’t be missed by any visitor to the area. Another very good parkland style course is the Point at Polzeath which has been constantly improved and updated over the last few years. Bowood Park is another parkland course which from the back tees is a good test of golf worth pitting your wits against.

The St. Mellion resort Has been refurbished and is now a really good four-star property with two golf courses on site and 80 bedrooms, award winning restaurants and excellent facilities there is no wonder its so popular. If you want a three star option then the Bowood Park Resort would be at the top of any list of places to play and stay. To sample the coastal delights of Cornwall then the four-star Carylon Bay would be the answer. Set on a cliff top overlooking the sea you have spectacular views as well as a very good golf course on site and an excellent spa.
