With the GBP currently weak against the Euro, a number of golfers are looking at ways to reduce the cost of their golf holidays. Here we’ve listed some of our top tips to travel on a budget no matter where your destination!
8 Is The Magic Number!
A large number of golf courses, resorts and even some hotels, especially in Spain and Portugal provide one free place for every 8 golfers. This offer is popular at La Cala Golf Resort in the Costa Del Sol and also Mar Menor Golf Resort in Murcia. This free place can be split across the rest of the group so everyone can benefit from the saving – so if you are looking to play golf in the Sun, the more the merrier we say!
Many golf resorts and even lots of hotels in popular golfing regions provide twin beds as standard which allows two people to share a room comfortably. Accommodation can often be expensive, especially if you are looking to travel in the Summer months so this is a great and popular option.
Explore Upcoming Destination
Getting off the ‘beaten track’ and trying somewhere considered to be an up and coming destination such as Costa Dorada or Murcia as oppose to the more established regions like the Costa Del Sol or Vilamoura can provide great value, often with cheaper green fees despite the courses being excellent (Lumine Golf, Hacineda Riquelme and Bonmont are great examples) and promotional offers like free transfers or buggies.
Opt For All Inclusive
If you are travelling in a group that’s looking to make the most of a weekend away and it’s as much about the social side as it is the golf, then opting for an all inclusive board basis might provide better value. There are some great all inclusive hotels in the Algarve and Costa Del Sol which are great locations for the nightlife as well as the golf.
Alternatively Self Catering…
At the other end of the spectrum to consider from all inclusive is self catering which if you are in a smaller group might provide some savings compared to breakfast at a hotel.
Change Your Travel Dates
October is peak season for golf in the Algarve and Costa Del Sol, so you’ll pay a premium price for green fees but if you can push your travel dates back to early November when the weather is still great for golf, you can make a great saving and get a better pick of the tee times due to the lesser demand.
