About St Mellion Estate
The St Mellion Estate has two Championship golf courses and a four-star hotel and is situated on the Devon-Cornwall border about twenty minutes from Plymouth. As well as the golf courses there are other facilities such as tennis courts, a spa, an award-winning restaurant and a brasserie. If you base yourself here you can easily visit several of the other popular local attractions such as the Eden Project, Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
Despite the quality of the facilities in the hotel it’s really the golf courses that are the main attraction for the visitor. The Nicklaus Course was the first European course that the great man designed and with over 400 acres to play with he had a great natural landscape to work with and certainly produced something special. The course opened in 1976 and is regularly placed amongst the top 100 in the country and has hosted several professional tournaments. It’s a typical Nicklaus design setting a tough challenge to golfers of all abilities with tight driving holes, plenty of water and bunkers to catch the wayward shot and challenging greens with subtle slopes that take some getting used to.
The second course known as the Kernow opened in 1976 and it has also hosted several European Tour events. The course underwent extensive renovations in 2008 and it is quite a contrast to the Nicklaus course offering a much easier but still challenging test of golf.
With two courses St Mellion is the ideal place for a weekend break giving you great golf and exceptional accommodation. The Hotel was renovated and now offers 80 comfortably furnished rooms in a modern fresh style. All of them have air conditioning, Satellite TV, and Wi-Fi and are of a decent size.
