The four-star The Carlyon Bay Hotel is a four-star property set in an exceptional position on the cliff top overlooking the sea. It’s one of the finest luxury hotels in Cornwall with the added benefit of having its own golf course. Near to the town of St. Austell, it is only two miles from the Eden Project and about ten minutes from the famous Lost Gardens of Heligan.
The golf course is around 6500 yards with a par of 72 and it offers some of the most spectacular views available in the UK as the front nine runs along the cliff top overlooking St. Austell Bay. In contrast, the back nine is pure parkland so it provides a fascinating contrast and makes for a memorable round. The views are so special it’s difficult to concentrate on playing good golf, but the opening hole sets the tone. It’s a relatively wide fairway but miss it on the right and your ball goes for a swim. Overall, it’s a very fair test of golf. There is a very large practice area to warm up on before starting to play or just to improve your game.
There are a variety of room styles available, but all are fitted to four-star standards in a modern and stylish décor. They all include free WiFi, flat screen television, tea and coffee facilities and modern en suite bathrooms.
The Bay View Restaurant as the name implies offers excellent sea views as well as some of the finest food in the area. Fresh local ingredients and skilful work in the kitchen have seen the restaurant deservedly earn its AA Rosette. For a less formal atmosphere but still fine food the Taste Brasserie is the place to go. Afternoon tea served in the Terrace Lounge is a popular choice and light snacks are served in the recently refurbished Spa Bar.
There is an excellent spa with an indoor swimming pool, steam room and treatment rooms offering a variety of relaxing massages and products to keep you in peak shape. Outside there are tennis courts and spacious grounds to walk in.
