About Melia Alicante, Alicante
Situated right in the heart of the City of Alicante overlooking the yacht-filled Marina on one side and the sea on the other the Melia Alicante is in the ideal location to discover the delights of the City and is centrally situated for several very good golf courses.
It’s a 4-star property with well-equipped rooms with stunning sea or marina views. They all have WiFi, a flat screen TV, a minibar safe and a full bathroom with either a bath or a shower. The rooms are well furnished in a modern style and there is plenty of room for luggage and golf clubs.
There are three restaurants on site and the breakfast room offers great views across the Balearic Sea towards Mallorca and is a great place to start the day.
The City of Alicante offers everything that a location for a good golfing holiday needs and this hotel is within walking distance of the Old part of town with its many bars and quality restaurants. There are numerous places to eat and drink alongside the Marina and in the evenings the streets seem to come alive with people enjoying themselves.
There are several golf courses to choose from all within easy travelling distance of the City and all offering exceptional value for money. Alicante Golf itself was designed by Seve Ballesteros and opened in 1998. It’s an interesting design and some of the holes have unusual features. The 14th requires a second shot over some Roman ruins which is fairly unique. The 9th is a typical Seve designed risk and reward hole where those attempting to go for the green in 2 face the challenge of water going most of the way around the green. Being close to the airport it’s an ideal spot to play on either the first or last day of your holiday.
Bonalba Golf is about 25 minutes away from Alicante and is another course that requires good decision-making as well as good shotmaking. 5 large lakes come into play on several holes and good positioning off the tee is required to make approach shots as easy as possible.
Font de Llop is set in wonderful surroundings largely unspoilt by any buildings around the course and offering great views of the distant mountains. Two contrasting nines with a front nine are very typical Spanish in design with undulating fairways and well-guarded greens compared to the back nine which is generally flatter and in a more traditional English style of design. A really good design and well worth a visit.
The moment you arrive at Alenda Golf and spot the modern-designed clubhouse you will know you are in for a treat. It’s a very well prepared course offering a variety of differently designed holes that require use of most of your clubs in the bag. It’s very close to the airport and is an ideal course to play on your way back to the airport.
