About Bonalba Golf Club, Benidorm

Bonalba Golf is one of the most popular courses in the region and is situated about 20 minutes from Alicante City. The architect Ramon Espinoza has cleverly designed a course that winds its way through a variety of different styles of housing that were part of the original development plan and it’s one of the most interesting layouts in the Costa Blanca.

The course has been good enough to hold several professional tournaments including staging a European Challenge Tour event. From the back tees the course stretches to nearly 7000 yards with a challenging par of 72. It’s mainly parkland in style and can be appreciated by golfers of all abilities if they choose the correct tees to play from.

There are five lakes spread around the course but with three of them on the front nine it’s important to get off to a good start to have a chance of going away with a good score. The three toughest holes are the par 4 seventh, the par-four eighth and the par-four ninth with stroke indexes of 1, 3 and 4 respectively. Known locally as Bonalba’s Amen Corner these three holes can make or break your round. The back nine has the prevailing wind to add to its protection and the final three holes are usually played into it to create quite a strong finishing stretch. Although the course is flat its layout means that a buggy is often advisable and the vegetation is typically Mediterranean with palm and pine trees surrounding some of the fairways.

For those who want to stay on a resort with its own golf course, there is a very good modern four-star hotel about two hundred yards from the first tee that has many special offers meaning that there is no excuse for not playing this enjoyable golf course.
