About Sandford Springs Hotel & Golf Club

About

Tucked between Basingstoke and Newbury in the North Hampshire Downs, Sandford Springs Hotel & Golf Club is a stylish and peaceful countryside retreat.

With its contemporary 4-star hotel, 27-hole golf complex, and panoramic views across the rolling chalk hills, the resort offers the perfect combination of quality, convenience, and natural beauty for your next UK golf break.

Golf Courses

Sandford Springs Golf Course comprises three distinct nine-hole loops – The Park, The Wood, and The Lakes – that can be played in various 18-hole combinations to suit different tastes and challenges. Designed by award-winning architect Hawtree Ltd, the layout is known for its variety, elevation changes, and superb scenery.

The Park features sweeping fairways and elevated tees with wide views of the countryside.

The Wood winds through mature trees and demands strategic shot placement.

The Lakes is the most dramatic of the three, with water hazards in play on several holes and a more technical design that rewards precision.

Together, they offer a full-length par-72 challenge when played in 18-hole combinations, totalling around 6,400–6,700 yards depending on the loop. The course is kept in excellent condition year-round and provides an enjoyable round for golfers of all skill levels.

Accommodation

The 40-bed hotel offers modern comfort with a boutique touch. Rooms are bright, spacious, and well-decorated with flat-screen TVs, rainfall showers, tea/coffee making facilities, and free Wi-Fi.

Many rooms overlook the course or the surrounding Hampshire countryside. For guests looking for a bit more luxury, executive rooms and suites provide additional space and upgraded amenities.

Facilities

Dining at Sandford Springs is a highlight, with the Kingsclere Bar & Restaurant offering a relaxed atmosphere, seasonal menus, and excellent views across the course.

The clubhouse includes a pro shop, changing facilities, and a friendly golfers’ bar ideal for pre-round coffees or post-round pints. Golfers can also make use of the driving range, putting green, and short game practice area.

Other Things to Do

The resort’s location makes it a great base for exploring the wider Hampshire and Berkshire area. Visit Highclere Castle (the real Downton Abbey), stroll through the nearby Watership Down countryside, or take a day trip to Newbury Racecourse. The historic towns of Winchester and Oxford are also within easy reach.
