About Concra Wood Golf Course
Concra Wood Golf Course is one of the great Irish golf courses that are available to play on a golf break in Ireland. Designed by Christy O‘Connor Senior and Junior the course is constructed to championship standards amidst rolling parkland alongside Lough Muckrno.
The 360 degree views encompass the Monaghan Drumlins, the Cooley and Mourne mountains to the east and the Slieve Gullion and Mullyash mountains to the north. The lough surrounds the golf course and it is truly a unique setting. It is situated in Castleblayney, County Monaghan just over an hour from Portmarnock. And a little longer from Dublin and about an hour and 20 minutes from Belfast.
The Concra Wood Golf Course was extended to 18 holes in 2008 and the Par 72 course has a variety of tees available so that golfers of all abilities can enjoy its magnificent surroundings. The fairways are generous and the greens are large but careful placement of the tee shot is required to get the correct approach to the pins. It’s no surprise that the course has hosted EuroPro events for 3 years. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, particularly on the par 5 4th hole which is spectacular. A double dogleg with the first two shots running alongside the Lough and then a short iron across the water is required to a tiered green. The course is reasonably hilly so it may be best to have a buggy.
The modern state-of-the-art clubhouse at Concra Wood Golf Course was opened in 2010 and is situated at the highest point offering spectacular views of the stunning surrounding scenery. The View Restaurant and View Bar are rightly named as they give panoramic views over the Lough and the surrounding countryside.
It is no surprise that the course gets incredible reviews and really should be on everyone’s playlist on a golf holiday in Ireland.
