About Castlemartyr Golf Club

The Castlemartyr golf club is a par 72 course set in the grounds of an old manor House in East Cork. It is an inland links style course designed by Ron Kirby whose resume of Irish courses includes Mount Juliet and the Old Head and also Gleneagles in Scotland.

It is without doubt one of the best golf courses in Cork situated about 20 miles from Cork Airport and about 2 hours drive from Dublin. The course opened in 2007 and is built on land that was once a sugar beet farm but it has certainly left those days far behind. Set in 220 acres of mature countryside the course winds around a large lake and is crossed by meandering streams.

The front 9 is shorter and easier than the back 9 so a good start is essential to set up a good score. There is water on 7 of the holes some protecting the large greens and the rest strategically placed to collect wayward second shots. A variety of tee positions means that the course can be a challenging and pleasurable experience for golfers of all abilities.

There is plenty of room from the tee with bumpy fairways that are designed to play like a links golf course and the links feeling is enhanced by gorse bushes and greens with runoff areas. The 211-yard par three  5th  is probably the signature hole requiring a tee shot to be placed between two bunkers to a large contoured green.

Castlemartyr Golf Club was voted Ireland’s Golf Resort of the Year and it’s easy to see why as it offers a 5 star golfing experience. From the moment you enter through the gates, you are aware that you are going to be in for an exhilarating experience.
