About Golf D'Etretat
Golf D’Etretat is an 18 holes golf course which offers stunning clifftop views. This course is well worth a visit on your next golf holiday in Normandy.
Located in stunning surroundings, the golf course overlooks the sea and bay of Etretat. Year after year Golf D’Etretat is classified among the best courses in France by the magazine “Golf Européen”. Its spectacular site means the course belongs among the three most remarkable sea-side golf courses in France, together with Sperone and Dinard.
The course was founded in 1908 to suit the number of British Visitors to the region and was originally only 13 holes and counted several members of the British nobility amongst the membership. As you would expect from such a position it was strategically important during the second world war and parts of the course were even mined! Thankfully they were cleared and in 1949 it re-opened and was now an 18 hole course it was re-modified again in 1992 to bring it up to its current exceptional standard.
The layout at Golf D’Etretat is in perpetual evolution. The green of the famous N°10 hole was reshaped recently, making this hole possibly even more spectacular. On your golf holiday in Normandy you will discover, when playing Golf D’Etretat a demanding course as soon as the wind blows, but whatever your score, you will keep in memory a magical moment. You. After the game, you will not resist the pleasure of a walk on the “Perrey”, by the seaside, and you will discover the magic of this bay, whose beauty is constant in all imaginable lights.
The course is a par 72 approximately 6660 yards long from the back tees. Again there are several tee options to use and so everyone can play the course suitable to their ability. You first encounter the Channel at the finish of the par 4 fourth hole and the rest of the front nine is a good challenge for lovers of links style golf. It is from the 10th tee onward that the course comes into its own the next 5 holes all played along the cliff tops. The 10th tee offers memorable views from its elevated position and a drive downhill to the fairway is a challenge and you can be well satisfied to walk off here with a par 5. The 14th tee is similarly spectacular as the Channel is on one side of you and you drive it over an inlet to reach the fairway. On a calm day it can seem relatively easy but due to its location one of the course’s biggest defenses is the wind that blows across the course regularly.
The clubhouse restaurant situated on the cliff top is a great place to finish the day with a cool glass of beer or wine as look across the Channel and discuss the day’s golf and sample the delightful local cuisine.
There is a driving range, short game area and practice putting green and both buggies and clubs can be hired at the course. Tee up a golf holiday in Normandy with Golf D’Etretat.
