Golf De Saint-Saens

Running around the 19th-century on-site hotel, the course at Golf De Saint-Saens is a perfect place to play a few rounds on your golf holiday in France.

Set in the heart of the Eawy Forest between Rouen and Dieppe one of the largest beechwood forests in France the Golf De Saint-Saens course is a gem and is one of the most beautiful courses in Normandy. It started life as a 5-hole course in 1988 and the full 18 holes course was opened the following year. Denis Robinson utilised all of the area’s natural resources to design a varied and very interesting lay which is worth a visit.

The par 71 layout extends to 6600 yards from the back tees and is divided into 3 different sections. The first 5 holes feature the river Varenne which winds amongst the fairways and greens. Holes 6 to 10 see fairways threading through centuries-old beech and oak trees. The last 9 holes are known as the plateau which is more hilly than other parts of the course and is guarded by bunkers and the prevailing wind before climaxing at the challenging final hole which offers fantastic views of the Chateau. There are five par 3’s and four par 5’s and the course has a slope rating of 136.

There is a magnificent 19th-century chateau which acts as the clubhouse and also offers accommodation. There is an independently run restaurant called L’Entre Potes offering fresh local produce in a typical French Brasserie style to satisfy all your lunchtime requirements. On a warm day, there is nothing better than sitting on the terrace with a cool beer and sampling the local cuisine. Interestingly there is also the Saint-Saens bar which stays open till 2 am which gives plenty of time for aftergolf analysis!

Apart from the clubhouse with its restaurant and bar amongst the other facilities are a driving range and practice putting green and both buggies and golf clubs can be hired at the course.
