Set in the Dartmoor National Park the Bovey Castle hotel offers five-star luxury accommodation in a Neo-Jacobean styled Country House. Its not a medieval castle in any sense as it was built in 1907 and has undergone extensive modernisation and improvements ever since. The AA has awarded it five red stars which is the highest rating it gives for exceptional hospitality. It was also awarded an award for large hotel of the year 2016 – 2017 by the South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

The golf course was originally designed by John Abercromby and opened for play in the 1920’s and after falling into dis repair it was updated in 2004 by Donald Steel and Tom Mckenzie. They had a place of natural beauty to work with as the course runs through a valley and the River Bovey winds its way across several of the holes. From the back tees its around 6300 yards with a par of 70. The front nine holes have water in play on six of them with the par three third hole a typical example. From a tee set amidst the trees the green is around 200 yards away with water catching anything that goes left of the green. Even from the much shorter front tees its still a relief to walk off with a par.

The hotel compliments the quality of the golf course with 60 well furnished rooms and 22 self catering lodges set in the magnificent gardens. The rooms are individually designed and most have views of the River Bovey, the golf course or the gardens. They are furnished in a traditional style befitting the surroundings but still have the facilities that a five star property needs.

There are two award winning restaurants on site with fine dining offered  in the Great Western restaurant which has the AA 3 star award and the Smiths Brasserie which has won 1 AA Rosette. There is a more relaxed atmosphere in Smiths but the food is of similar quality with fresh local produce crafted into a gastronomic delight.

The Elan Spa has a splendid  indoor swimming pool  overlooking the grounds of the hotel and there are a variety of different treatments available from qualified professionals to help relax and reinvigorate you. For the more energetic there is a well equipped gym and a number of outdoor activities such as archery or off roading in a 4X4 through the extensive grounds.
