About Calanova Golf Club, Fuengirola
Situated in the golf valley behind La Cala de Mijas, Calanova Golf Course is one of the most progressive and improved golf complexes on the coast and offers spectacular views over the sea.
It’s a parkland style course that is par 72 and stretches nearly 6500 yards. Its built on rolling countryside so is a little hilly in places but as a buggy is always included in the green fee that isn’t a problem. In truth there are not many problems here as the course designed by Manuel Pinero which opened in 2005 is straightforward in that you don’t have any trick holes or blind shots or hidden surprises its just a very good golf course.
For those who have played here in the past you will be surprised by the improvements made. Gone are the old cabins that acted as the Clubhouse and in their place is a bright modern building that complements the setting perfectly. There are spectacular views over the course from the restaurant which offers extremely good value for money food.
The round opens with a dog leg par 5 that sets the tone for the rest of the round. A good drive could tempt you into going for the green in two but there is trouble eon both sides of the green for the errant stroke. You also get a hint of some of the views that you will experience later in the round. The par 3 sixth is an interesting hole which depending on the wind can be a short or a long iron onto a long green with a bunker on one side and water on the other. The closing 18th is a shortish par 4 where hitting the fairway is imperative as it only leaves a short iron into the green but beware the water on the right hand side.
