La Reserva Golf, Sotogrande

La Reserva Golf opened in 2004 and is another brilliant Cabell Robinson design. It’s situated almost alongside San Roque Golf Club, it would be hard to find such quality golf courses so close together anywhere else in Europe.

The course is always in magnificent condition and is considered one of the finest in the region. From the back tees, it is over 7300 yards with a par of 72 but the fairways are generous, encouraging you to use a driver on most of the holes, especially on the front nine. The greens are also large but finding the correct part of them to get near the pin is vital as they are usually very fast and have extremely subtle slopes. One of the beauties of the course is that the designer has put five different tees on each hole so no matter your ability you can enjoy this spectacular course.

As the course is built on land that is between two valleys it is undulating offering a variety of slopes and lies to play from. The two nines are quite distinct with the front nine being more open and the back nine having more trees to catch the wayward shot. A buggy is recommended here.

Great emphasis has been placed on maintaining the naturalness of the landscape. When the course was being constructed shrubs and fauna were removed and stored and then replaced once the fairways and greens had been constructed. Careful attention was also paid to establishing some spectacular views of the mountains and the sea.

The Clubhouse sits grandly overlooking the course. Slightly Arabic in design its luxurious rooms are well appointed and the quality of the service is everything you would expect from what is, without doubt, one of the very best resorts on the coast.
