About Aloha Golf Club, Estepona
Situated only a few miles from the centre of Puerto Banus in the heart of Golf Valley, Aloha Golf Club is one of the most prestigious and well-established clubs in the Costa Del Sol. It has played host to many professional tournaments including three 3 in recent years. It’s always been a very popular members club but is now happy to accept visitors and as one of Spain’s top courses, it would be wrong not to take advantage of this great opportunity.
It’s a traditional parkland style and whilst it’s not long by today’s Championship standards, its 6900 yards require careful strategy and accurate driving and iron play. Javier Arcana designed the course which opened in 1975 and enhanced the experience by planting a wide range of shrubs and trees providing a colourful backdrop to what is a great design. The course is tightly fitted into its acreage and is quite hilly but has been skilfully designed so that you never feel hemmed in by the surrounding properties. There are four par fives and four par threes three of which are over 200 yards from the Championship tees. Considering the space available it’s unusual to see such large greens but here they are an essential part of the course’s defences. There are very few flat putting surfaces and hitting the green is no guarantee of two putting. Some of the slopes and tiers are very difficult to judge but add to the experience of this great course.
The first and tenth holes are both par fives and then there are a couple of hard par fours to follow that set the tone of the challenge ahead. The eighteenth is a tough finishing hole, a long par four with a narrow fairway with water on the left-hand side. Just when you think you have conquered it by getting on the green you then have an elevated, multi-tiered green to overcome.
