Golf Almerimar, Almerimar
As the only golf course in the province of Almeria that has 27 holes Golf Almerimar is well worth a visit. The area is renowned for its all year temperate climate and it would be very unusual not to play here in sunshine whatever time of year you play.
The course opened in 1976 and was a collaboration between architects Gary Player and Rob Kirby. With three loops of nine and several different tees to play from the course will provide a different challenge each time you play it and will appeal to golfers of all abilities.
It’s a relatively flat course but there are plenty of hazards to catch the wayward golfer. Although the fairways appear wide, well-positioned bunkers and palm trees require you to have a strategy from the tee rather than just blasting away with a driver. Water is also in play on several holes no more so than on the par three 11th which is an island green and the course’s signature hole. The fairways are quite firm and the ball tends to roll further than on other courses in the area so although it looks quite a long course on the card it plays a good deal shorter in reality.
There are excellent practice facilities with three short holes, a driving range and a large putting green to sharpen up your game. It is advisable to spend some time here as once you the greens on the course are large and quite tricky.
On site, there is the five-star Hotel Golf Almerimar which offers all the facilities you would expect from a modern Mediterranean Hotel and also a very good four-star hotel called the Hotel Almerimar. They are ideally located only a few metres from the modern Marina and the beach and within walking distance of the golf course.
