Bom Sucesso Golf has undergone major improvements and the continuing work being done on the course has transformed it into a most enjoyable and fun experience. It has always been a good design as you would expect from a Donald Steel design and now the condition is so much improved its well worth a visit.
An hours drive north of Lisbon it is part of a group of 4 golf courses all within 15 minutes of each other that are going to enable this region to become one of Europe’s top golfing destinations. Combine playing here with rounds at West Cliffs, Royal Obidos and Praia D’El Rey and you will have a great golfing vacation.
Bom Successo Golf Course
The course stretches to 6600 yards from the back tees but with several other tees to play from it’s a very playable golf course for players of all standards. The first 9 holes are relatively flat and it’s the back 9 that offers great views of the surrounding area. It’s a fairly gentle start with a shortish par 4 to get you going and that’s followed by a par 5 where you play to a green guarded by a lake. The front nine closes with two shortish par 4’s that might tempt the longer hitters to go for the green and the back nine starts with a good looking par 3. The course rises to its highest point at the 17th tee and this is a good opportunity to get the camera out. It’s a very good par 5 with a wide but uneven fairway to hit into. Once you reach your ball the fun starts as the hole turns sharply left and goes downhill. It is possible to go for the green but the undulating nature of the fairway makes it more difficult than you might think. The 18th is a great finishing hole with a stream crossing the fairway not once but twice and from the elevated tee it is definitely in play. Par is a very satisfying way to finish.

Overall, this is a very fair golf course. The fairways are generous and the greens are some of the best in the area and you are sure to have an enjoyable round. The condition of the course is continually improving and there is an excellent driving range. There is also some of the best accommodation in the area around the golf course. This ranges from villas that sleep 10 people in luxury to self catering apartments for 2 that have the highest specification and this resort is the perfect place to stay to sample some of the best value for money golf in the whole of Europe.
