About Aiguesverds Golf Club, Reus
Aiguesverds Golf Club may not be the easiest course to pronounce but that shouldn’t put any one off playing there. The club opened in 1989 making it the second oldest course in the region and is situated in Reus about 10 minutes from Tarraogna.
It is an 18 hole par 72 course stretching to over 6900 yards and there are also four par three holes that are used as practice areas. Mainly flat the course is set in olive groves and old established oak trees. The fairways are generous, and the emphasis is on accurate approach shots as the greens are protected by strategically placed bunkers and there is a par three with an island green that is probably the most memorable hole.
As it is relatively flat it is an easy course to walk but it is by no means an easy course. As well as the aforementioned hazards around the greens there are also 10 lakes to avoid. You first come across water on the second hole where following a drive into a fairly wide fairway your second shot has to carry a lake and avoid the water on the right-hand side of the green. The final two holes provide a challenge, especially from the back tees. The 17th is a 220 metre par 3 with the green guarded by 6 bunkers. The 18th is probably one of the hardest holes on the course with a stroke index of two. The drive has to thread between two lakes and that leaves an approach to a very tightly guarded green.
There are some of the best practice facilities in the area including a recently opened driving range that is over 300 metres long so can accommodate the longest of drivers. The 4 short holes provide an ideal place to practice your short game skills and there is an excellent golf academy for those wanting a little more guidance in how to play.
