We are often asked where the best value holidays are and in all the areas that we have visited there is little doubt that the Montecastillo Golf Resort is amongst the very best value on offer. Situated near to the beautiful city of Jerez and next door to the Jerez speedway, the resort offers a spectacular golf course and a recently refurbished 5 star hotel. It is located in the heart of Spain’s Sherry and brandy producing region. It would be a shame not to visit at least one of the nearby Bodegas to sample the local produce!
The hotel has spared no expense in its recent refurbishment. The 5 star rooms and villas and apartments mostly have views of the golf course and are fitted with a flat screen television, twin or double beds and are decorated in a modern style. There are 2 outdoor pools, a well-equipped spa and fitness centre and three tennis courts for hire and free Wi-Fi.
The golf course achieved fame as the home of the end of season Volvo Masters for many years. One of Jack Nicklaus greatest designs it’s been voted in the world’s top 50 golf courses it’s easy to see why. There are several outstanding holes buts it’s the 18th that will last in the memory. Without doubt one of Europe’s finest finishing holes you start from an elevated tee with water all the way down the left hand side. If you avoid that you are left with a challenging shot into a green that is protected by water and bunkers. If you make 4 here, you will walk off a very happy golfer. It’s not all about the 18th however the water around the golf course, the elevated large greens and the well positioned bunkers provide a thorough challenge throughout the round and it is truly well worth a visit. It’s a typical Nicklaus design in that you can see everything from the tee that faces you, there’s no blind holes and there are generous fairways from which to hit the generally elevated greens. Golfers of all abilities can be assured of a good game here as there are several tee choices to play from to suit your ability.
Bearing in mind all the above you may well ask why is it so inexpensive and the simple answer is that as there are not many flights going into the region the hotel has to price itself to attract the maximum number of guests. It’s true that Jerez airport is only a 20-minute drive from the resort and if you are in the South of England it’s easy enough to take advantage of the exceptional deals available. For those living in other parts of the UK it’s not quite so easy to get to. Seville Airport is about an hour away, Gibraltar about an hour and twenty minutes and Malaga is just over 2 hours’ drive.
Whichever airport you fly into its well worth a visit. Truly a 5 star luxury golf holiday at a very affordable price.
