The Costa Del Sol was one of the original European golfing destinations and for many was the first place they visited for a golfing holiday in mainland Europe. It served as a model for most of the other golfing destinations to copy and as such spawned rivals that would compete for their business. Most people will have visited the Costa Del Sol at least once and then gone on to other places to try them out.
Obviously, this was a problem for the region and along with a lack of investment in the golf courses the area suffered in comparison to places such as the Algarve. Realising that something had to be done and with several golf courses getting new ownership, investment was dramatically improved and now the Costa Del Sol is back in its rightful place as one of the most popular golfing destinations in Europe.
There is something for everyone in terms of budget – from the very cream of the crop such as Valderrama to dozens of other courses that offer excellent value for money. A few years ago there were problems with the quality of maintenance due to the economic conditions at some courses but visitors now will be pleasantly surprised at the improvements that have been made and they certainly stand comparison with any other golfing region.
With over 50 courses to choose from and some of Europe’s top holiday towns offering accommodation to suit all tastes and pockets it has every right to expect that it will resume its place at the top of most people’s holiday wish list. There is a whole coastline stretching from Nerja all the way to Gibraltar that is just packed with golden beaches, world famous resorts such as Puerto Banus, and numerous attractions for both the golfer and the non-golfer.
If you haven’t been for a few years or have yet to sample it then make 2018 the year you rediscover or visit for the first time golfs golden coast the Costa del Sol – you wont be disappointed !
