Next week Senior PGA Teaching Professional and YouTuber Peter Finch joins his friends and fellow teaching professionals/YouTubers Matt Fryer and Sam Mellor on a golf holiday in Lisbon, arriving Monday 30th April for 4 nights and 3 rounds of golf.
These guys will enjoy some of the finest hotels and courses in the towns of Estoril and Cascais, which are approximately 30 minutes west along the coast from the city of Lisbon itself. This particular region of Lisbon is incredibly popular for golfers who can enjoy a bustling city just a short drive or train ride away whilst taking advantage of the beautiful scenery and beaches of these coastal towns that are just a couple of miles apart.
Day 1 – April 30th 2018
Peter, Matt and Sam will fly into Lisbon airport and be transferred to the 5* Palacio Estoril Hotel, Golf & Spa. This hotel is absolutely stunning and is renowned with Royal families across Europe who have and continue to use this hotel as their base on visits to Portugal. It’s also got some interesting trivia behind it as well, featuring heavily in the James Bond movie ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’.
This all makes it sound like it is out of reach for the average golf holiday but in the golfing season there are some fantastic unlimited golf packages available with Estoril Golf Course and use of a free golf shuttle service.
Day 2 – May 1st 2018
The following day see’s the guys get the opportunity to play Estoril Golf Course. Historically this is an important golf club in the history of golf in Portugal, as along with three other course formed the Portuguese Golf Federation in 1949. Following this, it became host to no fewer than 20 editions of the Open championship from it’s creation in 1953 until 1987. As you can imagine, a course as old as this one has matured beautifully and features narrow fairways and short in distance. It will be interesting to see how the guys tackle this one in their vlogs!
Day 3 – May 2nd 2018
Just a short drive from Estoril (around 25 minutes), Belas Country Club golf course is a championship course that offers some incredible views and breathtaking landscapes with a number of greens and fairways situated in deep valleys. Having opened in 1997, this is another track which has had time for it to bed into it’s surroundings. Look out for some cracking views of the Sintra – a town which feels like it could have inspired fairy tale castles in Disney films with its multi-coloured churches, castles and palaces nestled high in the hills in the distance.
Day 4 – May 3rd 2018
Fingers crossed the guys haven’t lost all their Euros in Casino Estoril – Europe’s largest casino and home to over 700 slot machines, and that they didn’t consume too many Super Bocks the night before as they will be spending the final night at Praia d’El Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort, which is an hour North of Lisbon, and situated by the coast. The on-site golf course is the closest thing to links golf you can get in Portugal, with rugged terrain surrounding the fairways and gorgeous coastal views.
Day 5 – May 4th 2018
The guys head home, hopefully with some great memories from their golfing break in this region, which makes for a great alternative from the more obvious destinations like of the Algarve or the Costa Del Sol.
