2016 has been an interesting year for golf travel due to it being littered with challenges for consumers, tour operators and golf courses, hotels and resorts alike. The end of the previous year saw the British Pound in a strong position against the Euro which meant that you didn’t have to try too hard to get a great value golf break.
The weakening Pound leading up to the Brexit decision in July seemed to momentarily affect consumer confidence as the British public seemed to seek clarity on what the result of the referendum would mean. However larger groups still seemed to make their bookings, just their decision making process was longer than usual.
Our response to Brexit and to provide consumers with a boost in confidence was to introduce our Pound Proof Deals range which aims to look for high quality golf and accommodation in regions that may not have been a consideration before or is growing in popularity such as Costa Dorada and Murcia.
Beyond the currency struggles of the British Pound, consumer’s have looked for more politically stable golfing destinations such as the Costa Del Sol and the Algarve which seem to be more popular then ever.
We’ve continued to see an increase in larger groups and golfing societies continue to opt for an all inclusive board basis in an effort to control costs and maximise their time in the bar! This was a trend that really began in 2015 however has continued to flourish, and is likely to continue into 2017.
We’ve also seen an increase in the number of clients looking for a luxury golf break in regions such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Lisbon. This end of the market is fast growing and is often a couples main holiday as oppose to a larger group’s weekend away. To cater for this properly we have launched our own Luxury Collection which are our hand pick of 5* golf holidays. This includes UK golf resorts as well such as Stoke Park, Gleneagles and Trump Turnberry.
Speaking of UK golf breaks, our range has increased dramatically during 2016 as we now have resorts in all regions of the United Kingdom covering not only those seeking a luxury golf and Spa weekend but also those looking for a golfing weekend away with accommodation in cities such as Leeds, Newcastle, and York which are ideal for stag weekends and that long time promised get together with mates.
