Martin's Relais, Bruges

The four star Martin’s Relais hotel is situated in the heart of the city of Bruges – the Venice of the North and was originally known as the Old Huis Amsterdam. It’s a very short walk from the hotel to the Grote Mart in the centre of the city. Originally five houses that have been expertly converted into a modern boutique hotel it stands on the bank of Bruges oldest harbour. In the thirteenth century they were commercial premises but even then they offered accommodation, food and drink to those doing business in the centre. Over the next 700 years the properties went through various uses but were always part of the city’s bustling commercial scene.

In the eighteenth century the houses were rebuilt and are now in the typical Bruges style. It’s a small boutique hotel with forty four guest rooms in three different categories. All the rooms have views over the canal or the large gardens. Although the rooms are different they have been decorated in a similar style of pastel colours, lime wood furniture and old prints.  In the common areas they have maintained the charm and kept a sense of history with chandeliers, antique furnishings and period paintings.
