What To Take On Your Golf Holiday

A Guide Of Items To Pack For Your Golf Holiday

There is a fine art in taking just the right amount of equipment on your golf holiday without getting hit with additional baggage fees! First up is golf balls. Most golf holiday destinations will have local golf ball sellers on the side of the road leading up to the local golf courses selling “lost and lake” balls for around a euro per ball. Although often frowned upon by the local courses, as long as the sellers do not sell on the golf courses property this is a great place to pick up some bargain balls to see you through your golf holiday.

Other essentials are the obvious holiday staple items. Suncream, insect repellent and an Alka Seltzer are perfect for those playing golf in the midday sun as well as enjoying a drink or three on their golf holidays!

Golfers must take proper golf shoes with them (without metal spikes) as they may be turned away if trying to play in trainers or other unsuitable types of footwear.

For travel money we recommend using any of the local high street vendors in the UK as most offer a competitive rate, or alternatively we have found from experience cash machines abroad are as good as anything and very convenient. Do not however use any of the foreign exchange providers at the airport as the rates they provide are astonishingly low and can lead to your sepending money not going so far on your golf holiday!

Glencor Golf Hits France!

Glencor Golf Holidays visit the popular resort of Le Touquet…Here’s what happened

After a short crossing with no queuing we were in France singing the praises of the Eurotunnel. A 35 minute crossing really does make this the perfect mode of transport for your golf holiday in France. No baggage restrictions, no hanging around and straight out onto the motorway. We were all in high spirits!

First stop was the Pines Course at Hardelot. After a short 30 minute drive from Calais with only twice having to shout at the driver “keep to the right hand side” we were safely in the car park and admiring the view. We were greeted by lush green fairways and tall pine trees to give us an exciting glimpse of what lay ahead.

The Pines Course was a good mix of tight fairways and stunning views. The course was surrounded by gorgeous French holiday homes, all of which only added to the effect and never once made you feel crowded or over looked. After a long battle our game came to a finish on the 18th after a tight game of four ball match play. After sitting on the terrace with a cold beer after we all agreed if our next two courses were to be half as good as the Pines course then we were in for a great French Golf Holiday. Erm sorry, I mean a great French trip for work (just in case anyone in the office is reading).

Next stop was Le Manoir Hotel for the evening. A popular place for anyone on a golf holiday in Le Touquet, Le Manoir Hotel offers a great French feel with two courses on its doorstep. After sampling some of the French largers it was off the the restauraunt for a true French dining experience. Although not cheap at around 45 euro a head (including wine) the restaurant did not disappoint and we all retired to our rooms happy.

Golf next day was at the on-site Le Mer Golf Course. Just a short walk from the hotel the links layout looked stunning thanks to its rolling dunes and lush green fairways. The course didn’t disappoint and was a real test. A great challenge for anyone looking for some championship golf on their golf holiday in France. The course has featured inside Golf Worlds Top 100 courses in the world list and it’s easy to see why!

After a great round we headed to the Red Fox hotel to rest our heads for another night. The hotel is centrally located in Le Touquet and is great for golf groups looking to be in the heart of the action. Despite being a touch basic and noisy on an evening you really can’t be any better located. After a great meal at a quaint Bistro and some more French Wine it was time to retire to bed!

Next morning was an early start to get back up to Hardelot to play the Dunes course. Despite feeling a little groggy after trying to sleep next to what can only be described as a snoring Walrus (You know who you are…Dave) we were blown away by the quality of the course. After being in this role for a while now we are lucky enough to play some of Europe’s top courses, however the little known Dunes course now sits proudly at the top of my list of favourite courses! A stunning mix of elevated tee shots with every hole being a challenge and memorable the course was worth the trip along. Absolutely amazing.

After our round it was time for the trip back up to York which only took 7 hours in total from walking off the 18th green to strolling through the front door. A great trip and one which means we can recommend a golf break in le Touquet to anyone!

Such is the rise of budget airlines these days, most golfers on a short golf holiday now like to travel light and only take hand luggage when setting off on their Costa Del Sol Golf Holiday or to any other sunny destination! There is a fine art in taking just the right amount of equipment on your golf holiday without getting hit with additional baggage fees! First up is golf balls. Most golf holiday destinations will have local golf ball sellers on the side of the road leading up to the local golf courses selling "lost and lake" balls for around a euro per ball. Although often frowned upon by the local courses, as long as the sellers do not sell on the golf courses property this is a great place to pick up some bargain balls to see you through your golf holiday. Other essentials are the obvious holiday staple items. Suncream, insect repellent and an Alka Seltzer are perfect for those playing golf in the midday sun as well as enjoying a drink or three on their golf holidays! Golfers must take proper golf shoes with them (without metal spikes) as they may be turned away if trying to play in trainers or other unsuitable types of footwear. For travel money we recommend using any of the local high street vendors in the UK as most offer a competitive rate, or alternatively we have found from experience cash machines abroad are as good as anything and very convenient. Do not however use any of the foreign exchange providers at the airport as the rates they provide are astonishingly low and can lead to your sepending money not going so far on your golf holiday! Glencor Golf Holidays visit the popular resort of Le Touquet...Here's what happened

12pm on a Thursday night and we the team arrive into a very strange looking hotel in the centre of Folkestone. After a long drive down from York we get our heads down in the £21 a night hotel our boss had kindly (??!) put us up in for the night. Despite sharing a room with what can only be described as the worlds loudest fridge we woke up fresh and ready for our trip on the Eurotunnel. After a short crossing with no queuing we were in France singing the praises of the Eurotunnel. A 35 minute crossing really does make this the perfect mode of transport for your golf holiday in France. No baggage restrictions, no hanging around and straight out onto the motorway. We were all in high spirits! First stop was the Pines Course at Hardelot. After a short 30 minute drive from Calais with only twice having to shout at the driver "keep to the right hand side" we were safely in the car park and admiring the view. We were greeted by lush green fairways and tall pine trees to give us an exciting glimpse of what lay ahead. The Pines Course was a good mix of tight fairways and stunning views. The course was surrounded by gorgeous French holiday homes, all of which only added to the effect and never once made you feel crowded or over looked. After a long battle our game came to a finish on the 18th after a tight game of four ball match play. After sitting on the terrace with a cold beer after we all agreed if our next two courses were to be half as good as the Pines course then we were in for a great French Golf Holiday. Erm sorry, I mean a great French trip for work (just in case anyone in the office is reading). Next stop was Le Manoir Hotel for the evening. A popular place for anyone on a golf holiday in Le Touquet, Le Manoir Hotel offers a great French feel with two courses on its doorstep. After sampling some of the French largers it was off the the restauraunt for a true French dining experience. Although not cheap at around 45 euro a head (including wine) the restaurant did not disappoint and we all retired to our rooms happy. Golf next day was at the on-site Le Mer Golf Course. Just a short walk from the hotel the links layout looked stunning thanks to its rolling dunes and lush green fairways. The course didn't disappoint and was a real test. A great challenge for anyone looking for some championship golf on their golf holiday in France. The course has featured inside Golf Worlds Top 100 courses in the world list and it's easy to see why! After a great round we headed to the Red Fox hotel to rest our heads for another night. The hotel is centrally located in Le Touquet and is great for golf groups looking to be in the heart of the action. Despite being a touch basic and noisy on an evening you really can't be any better located. After a great meal at a quaint Bistro and some more French Wine it was time to retire to bed! Next morning was an early start to get back up to Hardelot to play the Dunes course. Despite feeling a little groggy after trying to sleep next to what can only be described as a snoring Walrus (You know who you are...Dave) we were blown away by the quality of the course. After being in this role for a while now we are lucky enough to play some of Europe's top courses, however the little known Dunes course now sits proudly at the top of my list of favourite courses! A stunning mix of elevated tee shots with every hole being a challenge and memorable the course was worth the trip along. Absolutely amazing. After our round it was time for the trip back up to York which only took 7 hours in total from walking off the 18th green to strolling through the front door.
